The popularity of natural deodorants is on the rise in India with the Indian consumers ‌becoming more aware of the toxic substances used in the beauty industry and the risks associated with them. The Indian market now is seemingly exploding with options when it comes to natural deodorants but even with so many choices at our disposal, it is very difficult to find a natural deodorant that can actually fight odour like an antiperspirant would. In my search for one such product, I stumbled upon Lineal Deodorant .Nominated by HARPER’S BAZAAR for its CONSCIOUS BEAUTY AWARDS, I took this deodorant for a spin and here’s what I love about it.

Please Note : When switching from an antiperspirant to a natural deodorant, you have to give it at least 14 days as a body that is used to the aluminium salts in an antiperspirant takes time to get accustomed to a natural deodorant.

 Ingredients: Simple and natural

Lineal deodorant is made with natural ingredients that the most of us already know about. Everything that goes into its making is mentioned on its label. A deodorant cannot get more honest and simpler than this!

 List of Ingredients

Fractionated Coconut Oil

Shea Butter

Sodium Bicarbonate

Tapioca Starch

Arrowroot Powder

Stearyl Alcohol

Natural Beeswax

Vitamin E

The Scent: Unisex and very fresh!

Lineal deodorant has two fragrances to offer, Mint and Wood and Bergamot and Musk. I tried Mint and Wood and loved every bit of it. It’s woody, herbaceous and invigorating and ideal for sultry Indian summers.

Texture: Weightless

By the appearance of it, the product looks like a thick solidified paste but once it comes in contact with the skin it glides on effortlessly. It may take a minute or two for your skin to absorb it but that’s about it. To me, it didn’t feel heavy or greasy at all. Also, it did not stain my clothes, a problem with most natural deodorants.

Odour Protection: UNSURPASSED

In this aspect Lineal wins by a mile. Having tried other natural deodorants has always left me feeling torn between smelling good and protecting my skin against toxins. They were all natural but couldn’t really combat odour which is a problem with most natural deodorants but not Lineal. Two swipes of the product had me smelling fresh for a good 12 hours in what were the sultriest days of summer. Finally a natural deodorant that works!

The Sweat Situation: Absorbs wetness instead of preventing sweat

The traditional antiperspirants contain aluminium salts that block the sweat pores. We need to realise that sweating is a natural and essential process that helps our body to regulate its temperature when it overheats. Lineal contains ingredients like arrowroot that help absorb the sweat leaving your armpits feeling clean and dry without having to block any pores.

Packaging: A classic deodorant stick

The product comes in a classic deodorant twist-up stick in a tube made up of 100% recycled plastic. It makes it very convenient to use the product by allowing easy, mess-free application.

Value for money : Spot on

Lineal comes in two sizes-

The Full size weighs 75 g and is priced at Rs. 599

The Travel size weighs 15 g and is priced at Rs. 349

The full sized bottle lasted a good two months for me which I feel is quite reasonable at 599, given the kind of performance it has to offer. In fact, this brand is so confident about their performance and quality that they offer free returns with a no questions asked policy in case the product does not work.

  • Natural ingredients
  • Smells awesome
  • Effective against body odour
  • Won’t stain clothes
  • Value for money

  • Takes time to get accustomed to
  • People with highly sensitive skin are recommended a patch test because it contains baking soda which can be an irritant

My Verdict:

When I researched about natural deodorants in the market, I came across various accounts of people talking about how the initial days of using a natural deodorant had them smelling bad. My Lineal experience was nothing like that. I did sweat a bit more than what I would with an antiperspirant but I smelled good throughout the days. I would recommend Lineal to anyone who is trying to switch to a natural deodorant.
